I’m a little behind on getting some reviews posted now that I’m sort of back to work from my hip injury, so this meal actually was on April 25th. We had been to Dugan’s a couple of times but this was the first time since starting to review places regularly so I figured it was time we talk about this lovely little place nestled in the middle of absolutely nowhere. Pulling up to Dugan’s you aren’t even sure you’re at a diner because you are surrounded on all sides by farmland. But the dining room is a large open space with absolutely beautiful hand-made wooden tables.
We decided to get our usual breakfasts whenever we go out, which meant Chelsea got two pieces of French toast, extra crispy bacon and a side of corned beef hash. Her French toast was simple but extremely well executed with good batter, a nice blend of sweet and savory for the seasoning and a perfect light sear. Bacon was absolutely spot on crispy and the major standout was that delectable corned beef hash. House-made hash is the best hash and this was, without a doubt, house-made. Perfect crunch, seasoned potatoes, not too much fat. This is some of the best corned beef hash around.
I had to go for sausage gravy, so I settled on the Breakfast Landfill, which is three eggs, hash and potatoes all smothered in sausage gravy. The gravy was rich and creamy, hash nice and potatoes nice and salty with perfectly cooked over-easy eggs. If you are willing to take the drive out, the sausage gravy is worth it. When you combine all of these flavors and textures together, it makes for a very nice breakfast.
Our service that day was a little slow because we got there right as the breakfast rush was starting, but we didn’t really mind because we knew the food was going to be worth it. Our waitress was extremely accommodating and stopped by to make sure our coffees were full. Every time we’ve been to Dugan’s, before and after their devastating fire, the food has been on point. It’s a good ways out of town but it makes for a nice and quiet drive that ends with a really good breakfast. As a self-proclaimed sausage gravy connoisseur, you can’t go wrong with Dugan’s. It may not be the best I’ve ever had, but it is absolutely amazing nonetheless.
