La Maison Blanche Bakery Café – Norwich, NY

Restaurant Reviews

So a while back, Chelsea (my wife) lived down in Oxford and ate at a French bakery/breakfast bistro and had a hankering to go back since it had been 10+ years since her first visit. So we woke up early on Wednesday and took the scenic route down to the quaint little village of Norwich to try out La Maison Blanche Bakery Café.

Chelsea knew before we even got there that she wanted the lemon creme crepes, so she ordered cappuccino to go with it and we sat outside on the back deck while we waited for our food. Her crepes were cooked perfectly with a really delicious lemon curd filling. Her cappuccino was made beautifully and was lightly creamy.

I hadn’t had a croque madame in years, so I had to get one along with a vanilla iced coffee. The coffee was basic coffee, but it tasted fresh and light. The croque madame was made with house-made bread, which was a nice touch, but I felt that the bechamel sauce could have used a bit more salt while cooking. The ham was seared nicely, Swiss melted just enough to be creamy but not burnt and the egg cooked perfectly.

We also ordered an apple turnover and a cream cheese croissant to take home and our total price was $35 plus tip. The food was really nice and light and we left feeling just satisfied enough to not be hungry. The drive down was just as beautiful as the view from the back porch as we ate. Overall, a nice breakfast date coupled with a scenic drive. The apple turnover was delicious even hours later with a flaky crust and sugar crystals on top with house-made apple stuffing. Chelsea’s croissant was still soft and creamy when she ate it later as well with a soft and flaky croissant folded with whipped cream cheese filling. It’s a bit of a hike so it will be a while before we go back, but if we happen to find ourselves down in that general area again for any reason neither of us would be opposed to getting breakfast again or even stopping just for a pastry.
